My classmates presentations varied. They had different personal connections that they made from the story. Some had really good designs for their one pager. Some of them were interactive with the class.
Different cultures have rules and practices that they follow. Ethnicity and race are different. For example, People can be very dark and still be Latino. Latino’s stay home with their parents until they are married.
1. They enjoy eating Tacos 2. They have desserts and drinks. 3. They have dances. 4. They do quinceaneras for 15th birthdays. 5. A lot have long curly or straight hair. 6. They celebrate Cinco de mayo for lost loved ones. 7. There are designated holidays. I want to know how it is to celebrate holidays with them.
The rock pile one pagers are summaries of the rock pile. It is a way to be creative and understanding with the information. The rock pile has personal connections that relate to our lives. However, there are many different ways to analyze the story.
Character attributes and actions are very telling. They impact the readers viewpoint and emotions toward them. Troy for instance is not afraid to speak his mind. It comes off as rude or disrespectful at times. He is overall a direct person.
“Fences” uses phrases and words to convey the story. The phrases can have negative impact. The way it is used in the story is to refer metaphorically and literally. For example the words devil and boy were used in the story . Boy was used to belittle lyons because he is not a man. The devil is negativity used to refer to someone or something bad.
Fences can be metaphorical or literal. They are symbolic for privacy and security. Metaphorically, you may put them up to avoid getting hurt or you may have trust issues. In a literal sense fences are for privacy and separation from outsiders.
Stories are full of themes and impact on the reader. In the Rock-pile story the overall message was the danger of your environment and surroundings. A concept found within the story is the family conflict. By the son not listening to his mother it caused him to be hurt and drama within the family.
As his head neared his father’s shoe. He almost felt his father’s angered energy. His father had a stance of disappointment that he knew. His father noticed the look of realization and sadness on his son’s face. His father began to calm and discuss the sequence of events with his son and relay the lesson to his son.
Today’s class was about the impact of an environment. We discussed how neighborhoods can affect people and their lives. When living in bad neighborhoods you tend to see things beyond the average person. In the text they were not in a good neighborhood and it caused someone to get hurt.
My neighborhood is in a quiet slightly busy area near the school. My neighborhood is unique because the houses are built differently and the neighborhood goes far. In the neighborhood the landfill is very visible and it continues to pile daily. It can be seen from the entrance of the neighborhood and it looks like it could be a mountain. .
In class we discussed long-lasting impacts of war on Soldiers. It often effects them in the future after going to war. It can be traumatic and nerve wracking. I know that veterans often have PTSD from personal experiences as well. It sometimes will lead to depression and even suicidal thoughts. In that case therapy can help but it is never guaranteed to help.
A Veteran’s past experiences might affect their present life in how they function. It can impact the way they interact with people and themselves. A lot of Veterans are impacted by post traumatic stress disorder. It leads to depression and even episodes of anxiety.
During todays class I learned about testing rules and regulations. There will be monthly benchmark and an end of course test that accounts for 20% of my grade. When testing it is best to focus and apply strategies. After having a discussion about testing we did a paper about Emily Dickinson.
